What is the Procedure for Placing Veneers?

The dentist will plan on three visits, though treatment may be completed in two. The first visit involves a thorough investigation of the teeth and planning of forthcoming treatments. The planning stage is an ideal opportunity to ask questions. Objectives and potential end results will be discussed, and the dentist will ensure that teeth are healthy enough for veneer placement.

1. First Visit:
   • Thorough investigation of teeth and planning.
   • Discuss treatment goals and desired outcomes.
   • Ensure teeth are healthy enough for veneers.
2. Second Visit (may last several hours):
   • Light buffing of the teeth to create space for veneer placement.
   • Since veneers are wafer-thin, little of the tooth needs to be altered.
   • Impressions of the teeth are created and sent to a technician.
   • A temporary veneer is placed to ensure a pleasant, functional appearance.
3. Final Visit:
   • Veneers are bonded to the teeth.
   • Before bonding, veneers are temporarily placed with glycerin to check for shade and fit.
   • The shade can be adjusted using coloured dental cement.
   • Permanent bonding with specialized dental cleansers and light beams to ensure a secure affixation.
   • The color of the veneers is now fixed.

What Does Getting Porcelain Veneers Involve?

Veneers could take two visits to complete the process. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken, and the shade (colour) will be chosen with your help.

1. Second Visit:
   • Teeth will be cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond.
   • Bonding cement is placed between the tooth and veneer, and a special LED light is used to harden and set the bond.

You will receive care instructions for your veneers. Proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will help prolong the life of your new veneers.

Additional Appointment Options:

Your treatment could also be done in five appointments as follows:

1. Consultation to evaluate, plan treatment, and provide a quote (we will determine how many teeth should be included based on your smile and budget).
2. Possible Mock-up (testing reversible options to verify what can enhance your smile).
3. Teeth preparation for the porcelain crowns and/or veneers. One week later, the procedure continues.
4. Cementing of the restorations.
5. Final polishing and adjustment of the bite (if required).

Appointment 2 carries additional costs but can be excluded at the patient’s request. Appointments 2 and 3 can be merged into one.

Minimal or No-Prep Veneers:

In the beginning, all veneers were of the no-prep or very minimal-prep variety. However, this had limited aesthetic success, as without prepping the teeth, it was difficult to achieve satisfactory results.
