Gingivoplasty

Gingivoplasty is a cosmetic gum procedure that focuses on reshaping healthy gum tissue to improve the appearance of the smile.

Unlike a gingivectomy, it does not remove diseased tissue.

Why Is Gingivoplasty Performed?

Gingivoplasty may be recommended to:

  • Improve the shape or contour of the gums
  • Create a more balanced and symmetrical smile
  • Reduce the appearance of a “gummy” smile
  • Refine gum appearance after orthodontic or periodontal treatment

What Happens During the Procedure?

  • The gums are numbed with local anaesthetic
  • The gum line is carefully sculpted and reshaped
  • The procedure is precise and conservative

Recovery and Healing

  • Healing is usually quick (about 7–10 days)
  • Mild tenderness or swelling may occur
  • Final results become visible as the gums heal

What to Expect After Gum Procedures

After any gum or soft tissue procedure, patients are usually advised to:

  • Eat soft foods for a few days
  • Avoid smoking during healing
  • Maintain gentle but thorough oral hygiene
  • Attend follow-up appointments as recommended

Discomfort is typically mild and temporary.
