What is BRITESMILE teeth whitening?

BRITESMILE is a teeth whitening process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.

What causes discoloration of teeth?
There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc. During the formation of teeth, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.

Who may benefit from BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening?
Almost anyone. However, teeth whitening may not be as effective for some as it is for others. We can determine if you are a viable candidate for BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening through a thorough oral exam, including a teeth shade assessment.

Do many people whiten their teeth?
More people whiten their teeth than you might imagine. A bright, sparkling smile can make a big difference for everyone. The BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.

Is BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening safe?
Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, it is the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any teeth whitening product, BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

How long do the results last?
By following some simple post teeth whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.

Is there any difference between over-the-counter teeth whiteners and
BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening?

Yes! Consulting your dental professional is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely.  Plus, over-the-counter teeth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. BRITESMILE is clinically proven to whiten your teeth nine to twelve shades in 60 minutes. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast.

How does the BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening In-Office System work?
The BRITESMILE light-activated teeth whitening gel's active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The BRITESMILE teeth whitening light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth.

What does a patient experience during the BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening procedure?

During the teeth whitening procedure, patients may comfortably watch a DVD on our Virtual Reality goggles, watch television, listen to music or even better, one of our relaxation tracks on iPod. We offer blankets, pillows, etc. for your comfort.

Are there any side effects to BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening?
With teeth whitening some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within one day after completion of the teeth whitening treatment.

How is exposure to the BRITESMILE teeth whitening light controlled?
The BRITESMILE teeth whitening procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. The clinician is required to monitor the procedure to ensure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected. Protective eyewear is required during the procedure. Light sensitive individuals including those undergoing PUVA (Psoralen+UV Radiation) therapy or other photo-chemotherapy, as well as patients with melanoma, should not undergo the ZOOM Teeth Whitening procedure. Also patients taking light sensitive drugs or substances, should consult their physician prior to BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening. SHOULD THIS BE YOUR CASE WE HAVE OTHER TEETH WHITENING SYSTEMS AVAILABLE.

How long does BRITESMILE In-Office Whitening take?
The complete teeth whitening procedure takes just over one and a half hour. The teeth whitening begins with a preparation period followed by 60 minutes of whitening. A cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Teeth Whitening session.

Can you guarantee my teeth will whiten ?
The BRITESMILE Teeth Whitening procedure is guaranteed by THE HOME OF BIOLOGICAL DENTISTRY to make tooth enamel go lighter. This will be thoroughly documented by use of accurate and standardised shade guide tabs. These shade guide tabs are used before and after the procedure so that you can see the results and the number of shades your teeth have improved.

Often we are able to achieve a level of whiteness that is as bright as those shades on the far left side of the shade guide.

In clinical studies, over 50% of patients reached B1* or better** in just 60 minutes. This testing was conducted among patients with starting with shades that were 8 shades or more darker than shade B1, using three 20 minutes sessions.

(*B1 is the name of the lightest natural tooth shade on the Vitapan® shade guide. The shade guide shown above is used to measure and photograph your 'before' and 'after' shades )(**Data on file.
